The Segal Company

The Segal Company has been providing benefits and human resources consulting for multi employer trust funds and public sector organizations. More than 8 million employees and their dependents in the U.S., Canada and abroad are covered by benefit programs sponsored by The Segal Company's thousands of clients in the private, public and non-profit sectors. Their clients range in size from several hundred employees to more than 400,000 employees.

The Challenge:
The Segal Company needed to process approximately 1000 detailed Executive Compensation Surveys in order to publish an annual book about salary and related benefit information.  Each year they would send out the paper surveys and as the paper surveys were collected, have the data entry done and an edited file created for their use in preparing the book.

The Tactics:
The annual surveys had a significant volume of data entry requirements.  The keying included significant editing requirements to make sure that numbers were keyed in the right numeric ranges and that fields were correct in relationship to other fields being captured. To do this work, Horizontech scanned and keyed the data from images for this multi-page survey document. Horizontech designed and created a Web-based survey to complement the paper one being mailed. 

The Results:
Horizontech hosted the Web site, which was reached by The Segal Company's customers via a link to the Horizontech Web site.  The Horizontech site was branded so all customer interfaces and display was created as an extension of The Segal Company's own site.  This allowed them to outsource the processing while retaining the customer “interface.” In addition, Horizontech created a consolidated output data file from the paper and electronic process in order to simplify the receipt of data by The Segal Company.
